3962306a36Sopenharmony_ciThere are two "types" of ARCnet - STAR topology and BUS topology.  This
4062306a36Sopenharmony_cirefers to how the cards are meant to be wired together.  According to most
4162306a36Sopenharmony_ciavailable documentation, you can only connect STAR cards to STAR cards and
4262306a36Sopenharmony_ciBUS cards to BUS cards.  That makes sense, right?  Well, it's not quite

4562306a36Sopenharmony_ciOnce you get past these little stumbling blocks, ARCnet is actually quite a
4662306a36Sopenharmony_ciwell-designed standard.  It uses something called "modified token passing"
4762306a36Sopenharmony_ciwhich makes it completely incompatible with so-called "Token Ring" cards,
4862306a36Sopenharmony_cibut which makes transfers much more reliable than Ethernet does.  In fact,
4962306a36Sopenharmony_ciARCnet will guarantee that a packet arrives safely at the destination, and
